Kress Gap Murals: Be Part of the Picture
As restoration begins on the historic Kress Gap Wall, we’re inviting you to help guide the vision for its next set of murals. Texarkana, USA, is a one-of-a-kind community. As a twin city at the heart of four states, we are full of stories, culture, and pride. We want our murals to reflect that spirit, and we need your input to choose the theme that will inspire local and regional artists.
Here’s how it works:
-
Vote for ONE of the themes below that best represents what Texarkana means to you.
-
Once the theme is selected, we’ll open a public art call for artists to pitch their designs and interpretation of the chosen theme.

Regional Legends and Folklore: Murals will draw inspiration from the fascinating myths and stories unique to our region — (Marfa Lights; rumored vampire lore of NW Louisiana; legendary Fouke Monster) These designs will celebrate the rich, eerie, and imaginative folklore that gives our area its character and intrigue.
Hidden Wonders: Murals will celebrate the unexpected beauty of Texarkana — the moments, places, and traditions that feel magical when seen through an artist’s eyes. From local wildlife and everyday life to folklore, food, and community spirit, these artworks will reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary.
Meet Me in the Middle: Murals will highlight Texarkana’s unique identity as a city shared by two states — a true meeting point. Artists can explore ideas of connection, crossroads, and community, drawing inspiration from famous pairs, symmetry, contrast, and the ways our dual identity makes us one-of-a-kind.
